IMS5023 : Information Enterprise Management and Marketing

Aim: To equip students to participate effectively in the development and management of information enterprises - as employees, team members, contractors, or self-employed professionals.
Objectives:

At the completion of this unit the students will:

have knowledge of:

  • key factors and relationships to be considered in developing and managing information products and services, with special reference to the Internet and multimedia;

have an understanding of:

  • the nature and operation of information communities and information markets, and recognise information needs and opportunities
  • the basic information technologies for developing human networks; and
  • selected theoretical concepts from business and the social sciences

have the skills to:

  • analyse and critique examples/cases from the information industry; and
  • propose and justify new or improved information products or services in response to needs or opportunities.

have developed attitudes which enable them to:

  • work collaboratively and ethically with professional colleagues, and with information communities, to discern information needs and to develop information products or services to meet those needs on a sustainable basis.
Prerequisite knowledge: A good general background in IT studies as implied by the formal prerequisites for the unit, namely: 24 credit points of IMS 9000-level units, or equivalent, or 24 points of graduate level units in the Master of Information Technology or the Master of Business Systems, or equivalent; or an approved undergraduate degree in Information Systems (IS) or Information Management (IM) or equivalent.
