SIMS Research - Achievements

mCommerce Centre Launched (11 November 2002)
Monash's mCommerce Centre was launched at a function at Caulfield on 11 November. The Centre is a joint venture of SIMS and the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering with the mission of carrying out applied research in mobile technology and to stimulate the adoption of mobile technology by Victorian businesses and organisations. Second FujiXerox Australia Ltd Knowledge Management Partnership Signed (16 October 2002)
FujiXerox Australia Ltd entered into a new partnership with SIMS knowledge management researchers, to explore the current state of knowledge management amongst Australian professional services organisations. FujiXerox Australia Ltd provided $30,000 sponsorship for two research projects ($15,000 each): Knowledge Management Practices in the Australian Financial Services Industry and Knowledge Management in the Professional Services Sector.

ARC Success: The Clever Use of Metadata (2 October 2002)
Monash researcher Professor Sue McKemmish along with colleagues Associate Professor Anne Gilliland-Swetland from UCLA and Mr Adrian Cunningham from the National Archives of Australia have won an ARC Linkage Grant totaling $192,000 to research The Clever Use of Metadata in eGovernment and eBusiness Recordkeeping Processes in Networked Environments.

Industry partners the National Archives of Australia, State Records Office of New South Wales and the Australian Society of Archivists will also contribute approximately $192,000 in cash and in kind during the 3 year project. Research will commence in July 2003.
