Overview
The research focus of the Information Systems Development Research (ISDr) Group covers a broad range of issues relating to all aspects of the development of information systems and innovation in teaching methods for teaching ISD.The research includes systems on a variety of platforms including web technologies, multimedia systems and mobile informatics. The research of the group also encompasses research relating to education programs focusing on the teaching of all aspects of systems development.
The group aims to become one of the leading groups internationally in the area of in innovative teaching of information systems.
Objectives
- To develop and disseminate a comprehensive understanding of the major issues relating to the information systems development process irrespective of platform.
- To conduct research into the different systems development methodologies thereby improving understanding of different methodologies and their application.
- To investigate issues closely related to the development of effective systems such as usability, human factors and the involvement of other professionals in the development process.
- To better understand, through research, why systems fail.
- To contribute to the development of curriculum leading to graduates who are better equipped to undertake the task of developing effective information systems.
- To investigate the use of alternative teaching methods, such as studio environments and problem based learning.
- To develop methodologies for building and evaluating multimedia system including learning strategies, process and interfaces.
- To investigate the design of problem solving activities to encourage effective learning behaviour.
- To investigate effective collaboration and its importance in systems development.
